Chapter 2.9: 2.31 Years

Year 3, day 113: It was today I went on an expedition again. After Blizzard Island drained our supply, I stepped out and let the others handle things, but when it comes to finding one of the seven treasures, I had to come along. This was a thing I wanted to do and it wouldn’t be right to just have them do the work for me.

The main problem was getting there, as I had located the Water-type treasure, a harmonica… at the bottom of the deepest part of the local ocean. When I thought Blizzard Island was a nightmare. Thankfully, by then, Tentacool had evolved into Tentacruel. After making some tow rope for Terra to hold on to, we headed for the Bottomless Sea.

It was another nightmare, as some of the nastiest Water Pokémon live down there and maybe they sensed my intent to break the seal. Thank Arceus for the rest of my team and their ability to stockpile. We had to immobilize the fuck outta Kyogre at the deepest part.

“Incredible…” they panted from exhaustion as they laid on the seafloor. “You have passed my trial…”

“Trial?” I asked.

“To ensure a strong heart that would not abuse the treasure’s power would be the one to claim it… It is behind that carving there in the back… It is yours…”

One Rock Smash from Mightyena later and we found a gold-colored treasure chest (only plated, as I later found) with a combination lock on the front. The combinations were among the text in the restricted scrolls, long and complex. But smart as those ancient Pokémon were, they apparently never thought the treasure seeker would have a flawless memory.

I held it in my claws – a beautifully-decorated blue harmonica. It glimmered like the sea in my hands.

“…So, uh, does anyone know how to play a harmonica? I’m a little tone-deaf.”
