Chapter 3.41: 10 Years

So I’d actually lost track of Shadow for the last couple years, trying to keep everything straight with making sure Tooty became a companion. Turns out he became a K-9 unit in the underground, even though he can’t speak the local language – and not for lack of trying, either.

We couldn’t find buyers for our house in Spiral Mountain, so we gave it to Banjo because who else. Along with the deeds to the Plateau properties so he can have an actual income. Still haven’t learned what it actually was.

We splurged almost all of our Notes – totaling about a thousand and ten – on video games (nothing beyond the N64, as it figured given the import business was still catching up), wardrobe, decorations, survival equipment where we could find it, furniture for Tooty to join me and Terra in the master bedroom (separate beds, though… for now), most anything else we felt like having (though I had to veto Bitbit trying to buy a sailboat) and whatever was left over was donated to the underground. We kept only a flat one hundred Notes to keep in the ice safe for sentimental purposes. You might be thinking “if you kept those, couldn’t you get the gold value-?” They’re actually gold-plated, and that’s assuming they look like gold at all. They’re far more valuable here, treated as actual currency. Plus me selling my hard-earned treasures would require rock-bottom desperation.

There was no high stakes poker game for a Master Ball (though I did have one last poker game with the guys the final night), followed by a large battle with a swarm of implacable Zubat. There was no one last treasure to find. The final day simply… was.

I had dropped in at roughly noon. For the last half-day, we hiked to Terrydactyland. We took our time, though.

Which is why we had just gotten to the entrance when the world fell away.
